Scholarship Offered to Seniors

Scholarship applications are currently being accepted by the Henry County Soil Conservation District (SCD) from area high school seniors.  The SCD plans to award two scholarships in 2013.  Students planning to attend college to study Natural Resources or Agriculture are encouraged to apply.

 Arbor Day - Tree Giveaway

The Henry County Soil Conservation District will give away trees on Arbor Day, Friday, March 1st at the USDA Farm Service Center, 408 North Market Street, Paris.  Virginia Pine, Chickasaw Plum, Persimmon, Sawtooth Oak and Pecan trees will be given away beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will continue while supplies last.

TreeSCD Tree Sale

The Henry County Soil Conservation District will have trees for sale Tuesday, March 5th through Friday, March 8th at the USDA Farm Service Center, 408 North Market Street, Paris.  A large variety of ornamental, shade and fruit trees will be available to choose from.  Shrubs, Knockout Roses, grape vines and blueberries will also be available.  Sizes and prices will vary.

 USDA Announces General CRP Signup

USDA announces the 45th General Signup for the Conservation Reserve Program will be held beginning May 20th and ending on June 14, 2013.  For additional information contact the Farm Service Agency.

NRCS Accepting Applications for Conservation Innovation Grants

USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service is accepting applications for Conservation Innovation Grants to help develop and demonstrate cutting-edge ideas to improve conservation on private lands.

"These grants are critical for developing and demonstrating out-of-the box ideas for conservation on America's private lands and strengthening rural communities," NRCS Acting Chief Jason Weller said.  "They inspire creative problem solving that boosts the production of our farmers and ranchers and ultimately improves our water, air and soil."
